Measurable outputs

Climate relevance

River mouths carry most land-based litter to the sea, and the heavier rainfall and flooding expected with climate change increase that flow. Measuring what arrives, and when, is what lets a city plan for a changing rainfall pattern rather than for an average year.

Conditions for replication

Requires flow and pollution data to choose the site, a barrier design that obstructs neither navigation nor fish passage, and an authority that will empty and maintain the basket. A full year of sampling is needed before the results carry meaning.
