Privacy notice

This is a prototype notice describing what the platform holds today. The binding notice is published by the platform operator before the COP31 launch.

About this notice

The Marine Litter Action Platform is a prototype under development. This page states plainly what the current build collects, why it is kept and for how long, so an organisation can decide what to share before the official notice exists.

What is collected

Only what an account or a submission needs:

  • Account details: name, email address and password, handled by the sign-in system.
  • Organisation profile: name, type, country, region, website and description.
  • Submitted practice data: everything typed into the application form, including the contact person and their email address.
  • Uploaded images: the photographs attached to a submission.
  • Contact messages: name, organisation, email address, topic and message text.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: the email address and which form it came from.

Why it is stored

Submitted content is stored so the secretariat can review it and, once accepted, publish it on the public pages. Account and organisation details show who submitted what and let the reviewer write back. Contact messages are read and answered by the secretariat. Newsletter addresses are kept for platform updates and nothing else. There is no profiling, no advertising and no automated decision-making, and no data is sold or passed to third parties.

What becomes public

A submission is only visible to visitors after an administrator publishes it. The published profile shows the organisation, location, description, results and images that were submitted. Account email addresses, contact messages and newsletter addresses are never published.

How long it is kept

Published content stays for as long as it is part of the platform. Drafts, submissions that were not accepted, contact messages and newsletter addresses are kept while the prototype runs and are removed when the operator's retention rules take effect at launch, or earlier on request.

Your choices

You can ask what is held about you, ask for a correction, ask for a submission to be withdrawn, or ask to be taken off the newsletter list. Use the contact form and the request reaches the secretariat directly.

Before launch

This text is written for the prototype. The platform operator provides the official notice, including the legal basis and the identity of the data controller, before the platform launches at COP31 in November 2026.
